Plot Overview

2 Days in New York is a 2012 romantic comedy directed by Julie Delpy. The plot follows a couple, Marion and Mingus, living together in New York City with their two children. One day, Marions family from France arrives to stay with them, resulting in culture clashes and comedic chaos. With her ex-boyfriend, her fathers mistress, and her sister all under one roof, Marion must find a way to keep the peace and manage the expectations of her family and her partner. Will she be able to keep the family together, or will their differences be too much?

Major Characters

2 Days in New York (2012) stars Julie Delpy and Chris Rock as the major characters, Marion and Mingus. Marion is a French photographer, who has recently ended a five-year relationship with her French ex-boyfriend. Mingus is a radio talk show host, who has recently broken up with his girlfriend. The two of them meet and slowly fall in love, despite the fact that they have different cultural backgrounds and lifestyles. As they navigate their new relationship, they must also manage their exes, as well as Marions family, who have arrived from France to visit. Ultimately, Marion and Mingus must find a way to combine their worlds and make a life together.

Supporting Characters

What would 2 Days in New York be without its supporting characters? From Marions father, Jeannot, to her sister Rose, played by rising stars Alexia Landeau and Melanie Laurent, the supporting cast provides a much needed balance to the chaotic energy of the main characters.

But perhaps the most memorable supporting character is Mingus, played by Chris Rock. From his hilarious improvisations to his approval of Marion and Mingus relationship, his presence adds a much needed levity to the film.

Overall, the supporting characters in 2 Days in New York provide a much needed anchor to the main characters, and make this film a classic.

Cultural Differences

Cultural differences play an important part in 2 Days in New York (2012). You may be wondering: why is this so? Well, the main character, Marion, is French, while her boyfriend is American. This means there are many moments throughout the film that illustrate the different cultures. For example, there is a scene where Marion is trying to explain French cooking to her boyfriend, and he is completely lost. This is just one of the many moments in the film that highlight the differences between the two cultures.
