Overview
The Greek forces and their navy, led by Themistocles, face off against the massive invading Persian forces led by mortal-turned-god Xerxes and Artemisia, the vengeful commander of the Persian navy.

But how can the Greeks possibly hope to compete against such an overwhelming force? Can Themistocles and his navy prevail against the combined might of Xerxes and Artemisia? Or will the Greeks be crushed beneath the might of the Persian forces?
Themistocles ultimately unites all of Greece, assembling a navy powerful enough to defeat the Persian armada.
But how could a single man unite all of Greece? Thats exactly what Themistocles set out to do. Despite the odds being stacked against him, Themistocles was determined and unwavering in his mission. He traveled from city to city, and slowly but surely, he was able to persuade each city to join forces against the Persians. With each city that he won over, his army grew stronger.
Eventually, Themistocles had amassed a navy powerful enough to challenge the Persian armada. In a final push of courage and conviction, he led the Greek forces to victory, uniting all of Greece and securing their freedom. His legacy lives on, a testament to the power of a unified Greece.

Well, for starters, Santoro did extensive research into the characters history and origins. He wanted to bring a sense of depth and detail to the character, allowing us to sympathize with Xerxes, instead of merely viewing him as a villain.
He also studied the physical appearance of Xerxes, and in the movie, we can see Santoros Xerxes sporting the same facial features, ornate clothing, and prosthetic nose and ears.
All in all, Santoros performance as Xerxes was an impressive one, and its no wonder he was widely praised for his role in the movie.
