Storyline
What’s the storyline of Blind Husbands? you might ask. The movie, released in 1919, tells the story of an Austrian doctor vacationing in the Alps. While there, he meets a beautiful young woman who is unmarried and falls in love with her. The doctor’s marriage becomes strained when he finds himself increasingly drawn to the woman, and things become complicated when her jealous husband begins to suspect something is going on. The movie follows the characters as they navigate the increasingly complicated web of love, betrayal, and revenge.
Characters
One of the most interesting characters in Blind Husbands is Dr. Karl Hellberg, played by Erich von Stroheim. He is the catalyst of the story, as his advances towards the protagonists wife, Vreneli, create a chaos of conflict and emotions.
But Vreneli is also an interesting character in her own right. She is torn between her husband and the Doctor, and must make difficult decisions about her marriage. This struggle is especially powerful when considering the time period in which this film was made.
The other characters in the movie add depth to the story, from Vrenelis husband to the Doctors partner, who helps him attempt to win Vrenelis affections. All of these characters come together to create an intriguing and captivating story.
